New, used & refurbished containers for sale in Irvine

Irvine is running one of the largest municipal construction programmes in Orange County. The Great Park build-out is a roughly $1.1 billion project across some 1,300 acres, with phases landing in waves from 2026 through the end of the decade — an amphitheatre, two lakes, cultural buildings, and the Canopy retail centre. Add the Spectrum, the Irvine Business Complex, the Healthcare Corridor, and ordinary tenant improvement work across the business parks, and there is steady demand for somewhere secure to put tools, materials and equipment.

Long projects change the calculation. A container on a job site running eighteen months or more usually costs less bought than rented, and we will tell you where that line falls for your schedule rather than quietly billing monthly for three years. For a defined phase, rental is the cleaner answer — we deliver and collect on our own trucks, so a unit arrives when the phase starts and leaves when it ends.

One local caution worth stating plainly: Irvine is among the most association-governed cities in California, and residential CC&Rs here commonly prohibit containers outright, including temporary ones. Check with your association before you order. Commercial, industrial and permitted construction sites are far more straightforward, and we will supply dimensions, weights and placement drawings for whatever you need to file.

On the way back from picking up parts we finally stopped by since we drive past it a lot. Solid spot — the guy working was super helpful and got us in and out quick with the container we needed. Prices seemed fair compared to what everyone else charges online.

Worked over a weekend to get us a modified shipping container ahead of schedule at a reasonable price. This company is the best!

Byron Young

I would recommend Shipping Container Depot and Phil to any of my business colleagues. They go out of their way to help you — very few companies like them left. Thank you for your expertise.

Andrew Simapay

Bought a container and could not be happier. The price was very reasonable, cheaper than the other quotes, and it was delivered on time — placed in a very tight spot for no extra money and with a smile. Great job!

Pro tip: the 40ft high cube is the go-to for container homes and offices — that extra foot of interior height makes all the difference once you insulate and finish the ceiling.

Here’s our wedge: we run our own truck fleet. Competitors sell you a container and hand you off to a third-party trucker they’ve never worked with. We don’t. Our drivers, our tilt-bed trucks, straight from our LA depot to your site anywhere in Irvine and central Orange County — typically 3–5 business days.

FAQ

Irvine container questions, answered

+Will my Irvine homeowners association allow a container?
Very often the answer is no, and it is worth finding out before you order rather than after a truck arrives. Irvine is heavily association-governed and many village CC&Rs prohibit containers, storage structures and visible equipment on residential lots even for short periods. Your association documents will say, and some allow a temporary unit with written approval during permitted construction. We can supply drawings and finish details to support a submission, but the approval sits with your association.
+Can you supply containers for Great Park and other long-running projects?
Yes. Phased construction is straightforward work for us — a unit arrives for a phase, we collect it when that phase finishes, and we can price several units for contractors running more than one site. Tell us the schedule and the placement spot and we will fit delivery around the programme. Site access on active construction is usually agreed with the general contractor first, so give us that contact and we will coordinate directly.
+Should I buy or rent for a multi-year project?
Do the arithmetic on the schedule. For a defined phase of a few months, rent — we deliver and collect, and there is nothing to dispose of afterwards. Past roughly eighteen months to two years of continuous use, the rental total overtakes the price of buying a used unit outright, and reselling at the end usually leaves you ahead. We will say which way the numbers fall for your timeline even when renting earns us more.
+Can a container be fitted out as a site office?
Yes, and we do the work in our own shop rather than subcontracting. Personnel doors, windows, lighting, power, climate control, flooring and shelving are all standard. A 20ft unit makes a workable single-crew office; a 40ft high cube gives room for a plan table and meeting space with secure storage at one end. Lead time depends on specification, so bring us in early on anything tied to a programme date.
+Do I need a permit to place a container in Irvine?
It depends on zoning, duration, and use. A container supporting active permitted construction is treated differently from a permanent accessory structure, and requirements differ across Irvine, Lake Forest and neighbouring jurisdictions. On residential property your association’s rules apply on top of the city’s and are often the stricter of the two. Confirm with City of Irvine Community Development, and we will supply what you need for the application.
+What is the typical delivery time to Irvine?
Delivery across Irvine and central Orange County is typically 3–5 business days from our Los Angeles depot. Sites needing gate access, an agreed placement spot, or contractor coordination can take longer. Quotes come back the same day with the window confirmed.
+How much are shipping containers in Irvine?
Expect $1,400 to $7,000 depending on size, condition, and delivery. One-trip units run roughly $5,000–$6,000 for a 20ft and $6,500–$7,000 for a 40ft; used units run about $1,200–$2,500 for a 20ft and $2,600–$3,300 for a 40ft. Rentals start around $100 a month for a 20ft and $200 a month for a 40ft, with multi-unit pricing for contractors running several sites. Site office fit-out is quoted separately.
+Do you deliver to the Spectrum, the Business Complex, Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch?
Yes — Irvine and central Orange County, including the Irvine Spectrum, the Great Park Neighborhoods, the Irvine Business Complex, Woodbridge, Turtle Rock, Northwood, University Park, Portola Springs, Lake Forest, and Foothill Ranch. Send the delivery address and we will price it.
