Los Angeles is our home market. The trucks that deliver your container are ours, the drivers are on our payroll, and the unit comes off a lot we own rather than a broker’s listing — which is why we can quote a rental rate and confirm a delivery window in the same call. Renting suits a need with an end date. Productions take units for the run of a shoot. Contractors take them for the length of a build. Retailers take them through Q4 and hand them back in January. Homeowners take one through a renovation rather than paying for a storage unit across town and driving to it every weekend. We deliver and collect on our own trucks, so the container turns up when the job starts and leaves when it finishes.
If you’re not sure whether renting or buying makes more sense, ask. The honest answer depends on how long you need it — past roughly two years of continuous use, buying usually costs less, and we’d rather tell you that than keep the meter running. Where you can put a rented container in Los Angeles
Los Angeles publishes the clearest container rules of any city we deliver to. LADBS Information Bulletin P/BC 2023-104, “Cargo Containers for Incidental Storage,” sets out exactly what is allowed, and the numbers are specific.

That last row does most of the work. Open storage is generally permitted on industrial and some commercial land and generally not on residential streets — so in Los Angeles, renting a container for a business yard is straightforward and renting one for a house is usually not, unless it is tied to construction.
Renting is often the right answer in LA precisely because of these rules. If your need is a nine-month remodel or a seasonal inventory overflow, a rental avoids owning something you may not be allowed to keep. Container delivery and pickup across Los Angeles
Renting means the truck comes twice. Both visits need the same access, and the second one is the one people forget to plan for.
- The return trip needs the same clearance as the delivery — and by then you may have built a fence, parked a trailer or planted something. If the site changed, tell us before pickup day.
- Doors matter more on a rental — you will be opening them repeatedly for months. Several feet of permanent clear space in front, facing the way your forklift or pallet jack approaches.
- Central and South LA industrial streets — built for trucks, generally the easiest deliveries in the region.
- Hillside neighbourhoods and older canyons — narrow, steep, low overhead lines. Often a 20ft or a side-loader rather than a 40ft tilt-bed.
- Placing on a public street — that is a separate permit from StreetsLA, valid up to 60 days. StreetsLA can be reached on (213) 847-6000. On private property no street permit is needed.
