New, used & refurbished containers for sale in Newport Beach

Newport Harbor is the largest recreational harbour on the West Coast, and a good share of the container work here follows from that: sails, rigging, canvas, tenders, dock hardware and off-season gear that has to live somewhere dry and lockable between seasons. Add waterfront renovations, estate and household storage, and marine contractors working around the bay, and it makes for steady demand.

Keeping gear near the water rather than trucking it inland is usually the point, and it is where a container earns its keep against a storage unit miles away. The thing that matters most for marine kit is ventilation: a sealed steel box will sweat as it cools overnight, and damp is what ruins canvas, sails and anything with hardware on it. Vents on opposing walls handle most of it, and we fit them before delivery.

Access is worth settling early on this stretch. Balboa Island and the Peninsula have some of the tightest streets in Orange County, and the bridge and ferry constrain what can get across at all. A 20ft unit places where a 40ft simply cannot. Newport Coast and the mainland lots are far more straightforward. Send the address and a photo of the approach and we will tell you what fits. Containers are Corten weathering steel, so harbour air is ordinary service, and custom paint or cladding is available where a unit will be seen.

On the way back from picking up parts we finally stopped by since we drive past it a lot. Solid spot — the guy working was super helpful and got us in and out quick with the container we needed. Prices seemed fair compared to what everyone else charges online.

Worked over a weekend to get us a modified shipping container ahead of schedule at a reasonable price. This company is the best!

I would recommend Shipping Container Depot and Phil to any of my business colleagues. They go out of their way to help you — very few companies like them left. Thank you for your expertise.

Andrew Simapay

Bought a container and could not be happier. The price was very reasonable, cheaper than the other quotes, and it was delivered on time — placed in a very tight spot for no extra money and with a smile. Great job!

Pro tip: the 40ft high cube is the go-to for container homes and offices — that extra foot of interior height makes all the difference once you insulate and finish the ceiling.

Delivery

Container delivery in Newport Beach

Here’s our wedge: we run our own truck fleet. Competitors sell you a container and hand you off to a third-party trucker they’ve never worked with. We don’t. Our drivers, our tilt-bed trucks, straight from our LA depot to your property in Newport Beach and around the harbour — typically 3–5 business days, access permitting.

FAQ

Newport Beach container questions, answered

+Can I store boat gear, sails and canvas in a container?
Yes, and it is one of the more common local uses, but ventilate it. A sealed steel box holds heat through the day and sweats as it cools overnight, and that damp is what ruins sails, canvas, cushions, lines and anything with hardware on it. Passive vents on opposing walls cover most of it and we fit them before delivery; a turbine fan moves considerably more air if the unit is packed tight. Rinse salt off gear before it goes in and you will get years out of the arrangement.
+Is a container secure enough for high-value items?
It is a serious deterrent, not a vault, and the distinction matters. Units are Corten steel, windowless, and fitted with a lock box that shields the padlock shackle from bolt cutters, which defeats the most common attempt. That is genuinely solid for equipment, gear, tools and furniture. For art, collections, or anything individually valuable, check your insurer first — many policies treat an outbuilding differently from a house, and finding that out after a claim is the wrong time. Tell us the requirement and we can fit reinforced hardware, alarms, or lighting.
+Can a truck get onto Balboa Island or the Peninsula?
Sometimes, and it needs checking rather than assuming. The streets there are among the tightest in Orange County, the bridge and ferry limit what can cross, and a tilt-bed carrying a 40ft container needs roughly 100 feet of straight clearance to unload plus room to turn. A 20ft unit is realistic in many places a 40ft is not. Newport Coast, Corona del Mar and the mainland lots are far easier. Send the address and a photo of the approach and we will give you a straight answer before you pay anything.
+Do I need a permit to place a container in Newport Beach?
It depends on where it sits and for how long. Newport Beach lies within the coastal zone and administers a Local Coastal Program, so placement near the water, on the bay front, or in public view can involve more than a routine planning check, and anything permanent is treated very differently from a container on site through a renovation. Confirm with Newport Beach Community Development, and we will supply dimensions, weights, and placement drawings for the application.
+How do containers cope with harbour air?
Well. They are built from Corten weathering steel and designed for years at sea, so a berth beside the bay is ordinary service. Surface rust on a used unit is cosmetic rather than structural. Where the container will be visible from the water or a neighbouring property, marine-grade paint or cladding is worth specifying — as much for appearance as protection — and we apply it in our own shop.
+Can I rent for a season or a renovation rather than buy?
Yes, and for seasonal gear or a defined project that is usually the right call. We deliver and collect on our own trucks, so a unit can arrive for the winter lay-up or the length of a remodel and leave afterwards. If the gear needs a home every year, buying works out cheaper within a couple of years and we will tell you so.
+How much are shipping containers in Newport Beach?
Expect $1,400 to $7,000 depending on size, condition, and delivery. One-trip units run roughly $5,000–$6,000 for a 20ft and $6,500–$7,000 for a 40ft; used units run about $1,200–$2,500 for a 20ft and $2,600–$3,300 for a 40ft. Rentals start around $100 a month for a 20ft and $200 a month for a 40ft. Vents, custom paint and cladding are quoted separately, and constrained access can affect delivery cost — we will say so up front rather than on the invoice.
+Do you deliver to Corona del Mar, Newport Coast and Lido Isle?
Yes — Newport Beach and the harbour, including Balboa Island, the Balboa Peninsula, Corona del Mar, Newport Coast, Lido Isle, Mariners Mile, Newport Harbor, Bay Island, Crystal Cove, and Santa Ana Heights. Send the address and we will assess the approach along with the quote.
