Where you can put a container in Santa Ana
Santa Ana does not name containers in its zoning code, but it does publish clear outdoor storage standards for its industrial zones — and those are the numbers that decide whether your container is compliant.

The 8-foot screening wall is the practical constraint. A standard container is 8 ft 6 in tall and a high cube is 9 ft 6 in — both stand above an 8-foot fence, and the code says stored materials must not exceed the screening height. Whether a container counts as “stored materials” or as a structure is exactly the question to put to Planning before you order.
Santa Ana is actively converting office land to industrial. The city approved turning the South Coast Technology Center into a 313,000-square-foot industrial flex complex, projected to add 687 permanent jobs. New industrial tenants are a growing share of who buys containers here — and on a new-build flex site the screening wall is usually already in the plans, which makes the whole question simpler.
Container delivery in Santa Ana
Santa Ana is dense and flat. The industrial parts are easy and the older residential parts are among the tighter streets in Orange County.
- M1 and M2 industrial districts — loading docks, wide aprons, level concrete. Straightforward.
- Older central neighbourhoods — narrow streets, rear alleys, detached garages and cars parked both sides. Frequently a 20ft rather than a 40ft, and often an alley placement.
- Civic centre and downtown — traffic and parking density make timing matter more than clearance. Early morning slots are materially easier.
- Newer flex and business parks — purpose-built for freight. The easiest deliveries in the city.
- Screening walls — on industrial parcels, work out where the 8-foot wall goes before the container lands. Placing it right the first time costs nothing; moving it later costs a second truck.
