Where you can put a container in Oakland
Oakland moves more containers than almost anywhere in California and has no ordinance about putting one on your property. We checked — Planning Code Title 17 including the full definitions chapter, and every published zoning code bulletin. Containers are not mentioned in any of them.

Container delivery in Oakland
Oakland has the best truck infrastructure in Northern California and some of the tightest residential streets. The gap between the two is wide, so where you are matters.
- Port-adjacent and West Oakland industrial — built for container traffic at full scale. Nothing about a delivery here is difficult.
- The Oakland hills — steep, winding, narrow, with heavy tree canopy and low service drops. A 40ft tilt-bed usually cannot do it. Expect a 20ft, a side-loader, or a placement lower down the hill.
- Older flatland neighbourhoods — rear alleys and detached garages down long narrow driveways. The gate is almost always the constraint. Measure it at its narrowest point, posts included.
- Downtown and Jack London — if the truck takes a lane or parking spaces you need an OB permit with signs posted 72 hours ahead.
- Estuary and fill ground — parts of the flats sit on made ground that softens after rain. Tell us if the site holds water.
