New, used & refurbished containers for sale in Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades runs on large lots, high land value, and ambitious renovation. That shapes what people need a container for here: household and furniture storage while a remodel runs, secure tool and material holding on site, ADU and guest house projects, and somewhere to put half a house while it is being staged for sale.

On-site is the point. A storage unit in Culver City means renting space, renting a van, and driving across town every time you need something out of it. A container on your own driveway costs less over a long project, opens whenever you want it, and leaves when you are done. For a remodel measured in months, that difference adds up quickly.

Access is worth settling before you order. The Palisades sits between the canyons, the park, and the ocean with limited routes in, and the residential streets beyond them are narrow. A tilt-bed carrying a 40ft container needs roughly 100 feet of straight clearance to unload; a 20ft places far more easily on a residential lot and is what we deliver here most often. Send the address and a photo of the approach and we will tell you what fits. Containers are Corten weathering steel, and custom paint, cladding, and glazing are done in our own shop if the unit needs to suit the property.

On the way back from picking up parts we finally stopped by since we drive past it a lot. Solid spot — the guy working was super helpful and got us in and out quick with the container we needed. Prices seemed fair compared to what everyone else charges online.

Worked over a weekend to get us a modified shipping container ahead of schedule at a reasonable price. This company is the best!

Where you can put a container in Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades is part of the City of Los Angeles, so two sets of rules apply — the standard LADBS container bulletin, and the emergency rebuild order issued after the January 2025 fire. For most Palisades properties right now, the second one is the one that matters.

RuleWhat the city requires
Fire-damaged lotsMayor’s Emergency Executive Order No. 1 states a property owner “shall be permitted to locate a storage unit or shed on said property for up to three years
Temporary housing on siteRVs, tiny homes, modular structures and mobile homes permitted for up to three years, or while an active building permit applies, whichever is longer
Site conditionMust be vacant, free of hazards, and have contained a one- or two-family dwelling destroyed or significantly damaged by the wildfires
Setback (temporary housing)Minimum 5 feet from all property lines
Standard LA rule (P/BC 2023-104)Max 10 ft high × 10 ft wide × 40 ft long · 5 ft from a property line · 10 ft from another container or building
Stacking and occupancyProhibited under the standard bulletin. No connection to a power source
Zoning limitContainers for incidental storage are allowed only where the Zoning Code permits open storage — which excludes most residential streets outside the rebuild order

The Palisades Fire burned 23,448 acres and destroyed 6,837 structures. The three-year storage allowance exists precisely because thousands of owners need somewhere to keep what survived, and somewhere to stage materials, while they rebuild.

The rebuild order is the pathway here, not the ordinary storage bulletin. Outside a fire-damaged lot, Pacific Palisades is residential and the standard LADBS rule effectively rules containers out. On a fire-damaged lot you have three years. If you are not sure which situation your parcel is in, call us before you order and we will work through it with you rather than guess.

Container delivery in Pacific Palisades

The Palisades is one of the harder places in Los Angeles to put a container, and it has nothing to do with distance. It is the roads.

  • Canyon and bluff streets — narrow, winding, often single-lane in practice with cars parked one side. A 40ft tilt-bed needs a straight run it frequently cannot get here. Twenty-foot containers succeed far more often.
  • Steep driveways — a tilt-bed unloads by sliding the container off a raised bed. On a slope that is not a controlled placement. Sloped sites here are usually a crane or side-loader job.
  • Rebuild sites — debris clearance status, temporary power and neighbouring construction traffic all change what is possible week to week. Tell us the current state of the lot, not the state it was in when you first called.
  • Overhead lines and mature trees — older streets here have low service drops and heavy canopy. This is the single most common reason a truck turns around in these hills.
  • Coastal and PCH access — timing matters more than clearance. Early morning slots avoid most of it.

You need roughly 60 feet of straight clear run for a 20ft and 100–120 feet for a 40ft, plus 14 feet of overhead clearance the whole way in. Our full container delivery guide covers site prep, the three ways a container comes off a truck, and the eight things that most often go wrong on the day.

Send photos taken from the street looking in, plus the drop spot. On Palisades streets that is the difference between a delivery and a wasted trip — and we would rather tell you a 40ft will not fit than charge you to find out.

FAQ

Pacific Palisades container questions, answered

+Is a container cheaper than a storage unit during a remodel?
Usually, once the project runs past a few months. A container sits on your own driveway, so there is no facility rental, no van hire, and no driving across town every time you need something. You also get the whole unit rather than a partitioned space. Where a storage facility wins is on short jobs, on lots with no room, and where climate control genuinely matters. Tell us the length of the project and we will say honestly which way makes more sense.
+Can I use a container while staging the house for sale?
Yes, and it is a common request in this market. Agents routinely ask owners to clear furniture, art, and personal items before photography and showings, and a container on the driveway keeps everything on the property rather than paying to move it twice. Rental suits this well — we deliver, you fill it, and we collect once the sale closes. If the unit needs to look presentable in listing photos, say so and we will pick accordingly.
+Can I build a container ADU or guest house on my lot?
Container-based accessory dwelling units are possible under California ADU law, and Palisades lot sizes and land values make building out genuinely worth considering. You will generally need a permanent foundation and an engineered plan set, and parts of the area sit within the coastal zone, which can add requirements. Speak to a local architect or permit consultant early — approval is the long pole, not supply. We provide the containers, usually 40ft high cubes for the interior height, and handle structural modifications.
+Can a delivery truck reach a hillside or canyon property?
Often, but check first. Beyond roughly 100 feet of straight clearance to unload, we need room to turn, overhead space clear of mature trees, and a firm level spot to set down. Canyon addresses and bluff-top lots are the usual difficulty. A 20ft unit reaches places a 40ft cannot. Send a photo of the approach and we will give you a straight answer, including when the answer is that nothing will fit.
+Do I need a permit to put a container on my property?
It depends on how long it stays and what it is used for. A container supporting an active permitted project is treated differently from a permanent accessory structure, and parts of Pacific Palisades fall within the coastal zone, which can add requirements for anything permanent or in a public view corridor. Confirm with the City of Los Angeles, and we will supply dimensions, weights, and placement drawings for the application.
+What is the typical delivery time?
Delivery is typically 3–7 business days. Confirming access and an agreed placement spot usually sets the date rather than the drive. Quotes come back the same day.
+How much are shipping containers in Pacific Palisades?
Expect $1,400 to $7,000 depending on size, condition, and delivery. One-trip units run roughly $5,000–$6,000 for a 20ft and $6,500–$7,000 for a 40ft; used units run about $1,200–$2,500 for a 20ft and $2,600–$3,300 for a 40ft. Rentals start around $100 a month for a 20ft and $200 a month for a 40ft. Custom paint and cladding are quoted separately, and constrained access can affect delivery cost — we will tell you up front rather than on the invoice.
+Which areas do you deliver to?
Pacific Palisades throughout, including the Alphabet Streets, Huntington Palisades, Castellammare, Rustic Canyon, Marquez Knolls, El Medio Bluffs, Temescal Canyon, the Palisades Highlands, Via Bluffs, and the Riviera. Send the address and we will assess the approach along with the quote.

We also deliver to: Santa Monica, Malibu and Los Angeles. We also serve buyers across the rest of the state — see every city on our shipping containers for sale in California page.
