Where you can put a container in Long Beach
Long Beach is one of the few cities in Southern California that writes its container rules down in plain language. They are published as Information Bulletin IB-030, “Intermodal Shipping Containers.” It is worth five minutes before you buy, because the rules here are stricter than most people expect.

The container also has to stay in decent condition and cannot block exits, parking or utility access. Repainting, floor replacement and minor repairs are fine; cutting it up into something else is a different conversation and a different permit.
The part most sellers will not tell you: if your property is in a residential or commercial zone rather than industrial, a container is not automatically allowed in Long Beach. Call the Planning Bureau before you order. We would rather lose a sale than have you pay to move a container twice — and if the answer comes back no, we will tell you what your options are.
Container delivery in Long Beach
Long Beach sits about 30 miles from central Los Angeles. Most orders land in 3–7 business days on our own tilt-bed trucks, priced to your address before you commit — not bolted on afterwards.
What changes here is not the distance. It is the street you live on.
- Port and industrial areas — the grid around the harbour, Terminal Island and the Westside was built for trucks. Wide lanes, big turning radii, nothing overhead. These are the easy ones.
- Belmont Shore, Naples and Alamitos Bay — narrow older streets, rear alleys, mature street trees and cars parked both sides. A 40ft tilt-bed often cannot make the turn. This is side-loader territory, and it is worth sending a photo before you order.
- Downtown and the waterfront — if the truck has to sit in a traffic lane or take parking spaces, you will need a Temporary Occupancy Permit from Long Beach Public Works. Apply at least 3 business days ahead and post “No Parking” signs 24 hours before delivery. Public Works: (562) 570-5000.
- Bixby Knolls, Los Altos and the eastside tracts — standard suburban driveways, usually straightforward. Check the gate width at its narrowest point, posts included.
