Where you can put a container in La Crescenta
The first thing to settle in La Crescenta is not what the rules say — it is whose rules apply. The community is unincorporated Los Angeles County, but the boundary with the City of Glendale runs through it block by block, and a La Crescenta or Montrose mailing address does not tell you which side you are on.

If the map says unincorporated county, the container needs a Miscellaneous Permit from LA County Building & Safety, with Regional Planning and Fire Department sign-off first. If it says Glendale, the city’s own code governs. Either way, do not rely on the common advice that sheds under 120 square feet are exempt — that exemption does not list cargo containers, and a 20 ft container is about 160 sq ft anyway. Confirm current requirements before you order.

La Crescenta sits northwest of us, above the 210 in the Crescenta Valley — an easy run on a good day and a careful one on the hillside streets.
The terrain is the constraint. Streets climbing toward the foothills get narrow and steep, and LA County will not permit a container in the public right-of-way where the road is under 15 feet wide or the grade exceeds 6%. That is a useful yardstick for private driveways too.
