Where you can put a container in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach has no container zoning rule — but it does have a specific, published rule for PODs and containers on the street, and one widely repeated error worth correcting.

Note what the street rule implies: eight feet or less in width covers a standard container, but seven days is a hard ceiling. If it is staying longer than a week it needs to be on your own property.
A correction worth making. Several container companies cite “HBZSO 230.84” as Huntington Beach’s container rule, and a mislabelled PDF on the city’s own server repeats it. Section 230.84 is Dedication and Improvements — grading plans and public improvements. It has nothing to do with containers. The rule that actually applies to the street is HBMC § 12.13.040.

Huntington Beach is flat and well laid out, which makes most of it easy. The complications are the beach blocks and the seven-day street clock.
- Downtown and the numbered streets near the pier — narrow lots, rear alleys, cars parked both sides. Frequently a 20ft or an alley placement rather than a 40ft in the driveway.
- Inland tract neighbourhoods — wide streets and standard driveways. Among the easiest deliveries in Orange County.
- Industrial areas near Gothard and the north end — level, wide, straightforward.
- Sand and soft ground — anywhere near the beach, what looks like solid ground may not carry a loaded truck. Tell us the surface.
- Seven-day street limit — if the container is going in the roadway rather than on your lot, plan the entire job inside a week.
